I’m often surprised at my enjoyment of being photographed. I’m intrigued by the duality of vulnerability and separation: the viewer, the subject, the photographer, all shielded by a physical contraption which helps bare secrets but simultaneously keeps them just hidden enough to abbreviate the story behind the gaze, the background, the reasoning for the picture. June is arrived and is mangling my desire to travel further than five steps from my front door (if I even make it that far). Though I’ve called Florida home since birth, the soupy summer hangs foremost on my list of “Things I Dread Throughout the Year” and coping with the honey-textured air & intense sunlight is a continual losing battle. I even sweat half of my body fluid out whilst doing yoga on my bedroom floor, wind up slipping out of bakasana and shaking the entire building with my unintentional bodyslam. Welcome to Florida. There’s no escaping the swirling humidity here. Continue reading “mango stir fry + shrimp & sausage”
Pride. A word of many denotations. Merriam-Webster cites three (four, if you count a pack of lions as one definition). Though a negative light oft gleams over its place in the dictionary, a swell of pride in oneself cements feelings of self-worth, something from which a good many of us can benefit. Myself included.

But upon landing I immediately felt reintegrated. Continue reading “Salted Chocolate Doughnuts & Orange Earl Grey Buttercream”
Today involved a checklist of adult responsibilities, ticked off, followed by time for creating and baking, a few hours in which I relished the childlike pleasure of getting my hands dirty.
Venturing East gripped a new milestone a few days ago, and I’ve barely stopped smiling since. Continue reading “5K | Weekend Trip Essentials”
Setting the table for Independence Day before I discovered the beauty of the kitchen, its heat, its flavors as many as stars in a cloudless night, was a more boring affair. Hot dogs, charred. Baked beans zapped and poured in a bowl and called a masterpiece. This year, not so. Life’s endless responsibilities pile up like that laundry I’ve neglected in my drier for nearly a week, yet still I manage to sweep aside time to bake – this time, for The Citrus Menu. Continue reading “Glazed Lemon-Blueberry Scones”
My shifting literary focus from fiction to nonfiction writing appears to correlate with the status of my mental wellbeing over time – a theory I have reflected on of late. Continue reading “Stronger than Fiction”
